My wardrobe consists of some favorite color palettes and staple pieces, but there are a few specific colors and patterns that I often run to when I’m in a rush for both my workwear or daily dress. Black and white are always reliable for any occasion. When I moved to New York and worked at Vanity Fair, my wardrobe quickly grew from bright vibrant colors to predominantly black. While some people may think black is a little too boring or dark, I learned quickly that wearing black was an easy way to elevate my look without spending an arm and a leg. I was able to switch in different tops to create completely new outfits with ease and black always looks chic.
One of my universal staples is a solid pair of pixie pants… which is probably why I have them in black, navy and gray 😉 While you can find them at many stores, my go-to spot for pixie pants is J.Crew. And because stripes and polka-dots are classic and never go out of style, they are great patterns to invest in for your wardrobe. I love purchasing pieces for my closet that will stand the test of time while looking modern and classic at the same time.
I fell in love with this sweet polka-dot blouse from Talbot’s and it is such an easy blouse to dress up or down. During a recent trip to Winston-Salem, I jetted off after work to spend a great mother-daughter weekend away and this look was an easy transition from the office to travel. While following trends are fun, I always try to make sure that I’m covered with a few basics in my wardrobe for each season. What better way to do that than with black and white polka-dots?
Polka dots are always fun! You can never go wrong with black and white! Or Talbot’s for that matter!
